Mario Espinosa is a mexican stage director, graduated from the UNAM University Theater Center. His teachers include Ludwik Margules and Alejandro Luna. He participated in courses and residencies in Germany, Great Britain and the United States, invited by the cultural and scenic institutions of those nations.

,

He has directed more than 35 theater and opera stagings. His plays have been presented in the main theaters in Mexico and also in the United States, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica and Brazil.

He was also directed the celebrations From the 20th century to the third millennium, organized by Conaculta, which took place at the Zócalo in Mexico City from December 31, 1999 to January 1st, 2000.

He is a member and founder of Cornamusa Producciones, a company that promotes artistic, theatrical, operatic and cinematographic projects.

He has been awarded various awards and distinctions, such as the International Citation Merit delivered by ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) in 2019, for contributions that have enriched the international performing arts, the Xavier Villaurrutia Medal, awarded by the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico in 2014 in recognition of his career in favor of Mexican theater, and the Auditorium Moon for the best operatic production of 2010 for Únicamente la verdad...

He has been Head of Theaters at the IMSS, National Theater Coordinator of the National Institute of Fine Arts, Executive Secretary of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, of the then National Council for Culture and the Arts, director of the Theater System of the Secretariat of Culture of the Government of the Federal District, and is currently director of the University Theater Center of UNAM.

For the second time, he is a member of the National Creators System of the National Fund for

Culture and the Arts.

In May 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, it premiered a multimedia piece, Verdecruz o los últimos lazaretos at the Aleph Unam Festival of Sciences and Arts.

 

AWARSD AND DISTINCTION

 

2019  Citation of Merit, awarded by ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) for its contributions to the                    enrichment of international performing arts.

 

2015  Prize for the best institutional theater, awarded by the Association of Theater Journalists for the staging of Una                luna para los malnacidos

 

2014  Xavier Villaurrutia Medal, awarded by the National Institute of Fine Arts during the National Theater Show,                    held in Monterrey and Nuevo León, for the contribution to the development of Mexican theater.

 

2010  Auditorium Moon for Únicamente la verdad: la verdadera historia de Camelia la Tejana, as best classic show.

 

2007  Recognized as one of the 300 Mexican leaders for his activity in the performing arts by the magazine Líderes                 Mexicanos, which publishes this magazine annually.

 

2003  Participation in the commemoration of 13th years of continuous work, Grupo 55 Teatro, on October 5th.

 

2002  Recognition of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa for the contribution to the development of theater in the                   state.

 

2001  Became part of the National System of Creators of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts. 

 

2000 Recognition of the Asociación Coahuilense de Teatristas AC, for the impulse given to the performing arts of                    Coahuila.

1998  Receives the Tarasca. ADE Award, from the Association of Stage Directors of Spain, for his personal                              contribution to the realization of the monograph on current Mexican theater, published in number 68-69 of the                magazine ADE-TEATRO.

 

1996  Special award for best stage director for El juego de la pasión, awarded by the Association of Theater Critics                and Journalists.

 

1994  Seki Sano Award as best director for Palinuro en la escalera, delivered by the Union of Critics and                                Chroniclers of Theater AC.

1994  Recognition as best search theater director by the Mexican Association of Theater Critics for staging Palinuro                  en la escalera.
